I learned an important lesson about the fundamentals of success while playing football many years ago. We had a fairly good team my junior year of high school and most of the players on the team were juniors. The following year the team had mostly seniors, and we had some pretty high expectations for the season. A situation like this can make one over-confident, and that’s exactly how we were at the beginning of my senior year. When the season started, we experienced that brutal rite of passage for all fo...

There are little ways and big ways of making a difference in someone’s life. More likely than not, there’s someone you can immediately call to mind who has impacted you and really made a difference in your life, whether it happened recently or even back during your formative years. There are definitely certain individuals in my life who have made a big difference for me and in this five minute video, I tell the story of how one of these people in specific really made a positive impact on my life back in...

NOTE: My apologies for the poor sound quality of this video–Please turn up your speakers. Nice as the breeze may have been, it was unfortunately far from ideal for filming purposes. In this video, Jack Canfield (co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series) and I discuss the new book we’re writing about networking along with our co-author Gautam Ganglani. Because the power of a story is the most effective way to demonstrate a point, we’re searching for real life networking stories that will h...

In this video, I talk to bestselling author Stewart Emery about his concept “Who’s in Your Room?” which prompts people to practice discernment in regard to those they let into their life. Just imagine you are going to have to live your entire life in one room with an entrance door but no exit door–who would you let in and who would you keep out? Knowing the answer to this may be more valuable than you realize . . . What do you think about this concept? Does it encourage you to be more care...

At a recent Referral Institute Conference, I was interviewed by Tiffanie Kellog (Trainer for the Referral Institute in Tampa, Florida) about the most crucial component for referral success. In this short video, filmed at the 2012 International Conference for BNI, the networking organization I founded back in 1985, I talk with my good friend and BNI Executive Director Mark Carmody about systems and business. Mark tells how one of the stories in Michael Gerber’s book The E-Myth caused him to have an epiphany about the value in systems and how systems can make it substantially easier to run an efficient business. To sum things up, the more systems you incorporate into your business, the more succes...

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to speak with my good friend Andy Hart, a networking expert from Ireland, at the BNI International Conference in Long Beach, CA. Andy is a true master of networking and in this short video, he explains the Levels of a Relationship and how having a huge network of contacts doesn’t necessarily mean you have a huge pool of contacts from which you’ll actually gain business. Andy discusses five main relationship levels in regard to business networking and the possibi...

Health Update – November11/02/12
I would like to share an update on my health situation . . . I have some fairly good news. Since my last update, the scans seem to be showing a positive change. When I had an ultrasound done earlier this week, my doctor stated that he was having a hard time finding the edge of the lesion. It appears to be less distinct and much harder to identify. As these changes have been happening, my PSA level has remained the same. It was rising steadily for the last several years but it has currently stabilized. I have bee...
